Trauma Therapy

Trauma is not what happens to you, it's about what happens inside you

Trauma
I define trauma as a personal disturbing and distressing experience. Traumatic events can be experienced early in life and impact the way we behave and perceive the world. Trauma can also occur at any stage of life, whether that be an accident, medical condition, a victim of oppression, or a sudden unexpected loss. No matter the cause, traumatic events can ultimately be difficult to define because the same event may be more traumatic for some people than for others.
Trauma is highly personal and how it effects our minds and bodies is also unique. There is no one "right" way to process trauma and part of the journey is finding what your body needs to heal and how to do that in a safe way.

Trauma Can Affect

-
the way you think about yourself and the world around you
-
how you react to stress
-
your physical well-being
-
your relationships with others
-
mental challenges and addiction
How I work
As a therapist working with trauma, my first priority is ensuring you feel safe, respected, and heard as we slowly uncover your own personal story and how the impacts of your life effect you to this day. I take a anti oppressive, non- judgemental, client focused approach to therapy. We go at your own pace while ensuring you feel as regulated as possible in the healing process. I use a number of evidence- based interventions to help clients process and recover from trauma using a mind and body approach. This can include narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, nature- based therapy, mindful somatic experiencing, and cognitive approaches
