Couples Therapy

Abstract Texture
Relationships Take Work

Couples counseling is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on helping a couple improve their overall relationship. Often, a couple can do basic maintenance and repairs of a relationship themselves, yet at times working with a licensed professional can provide a safe and respected environment to identify problems and work together to change things.

By working with a therapist, relationships can explore deep rooted issues, work on communication, improve interactions, resolve conflicts, improve intimacy, and become closer overall.

Reasons Couples May Seek Therapy:
  • You want a stronger and healthier relationship

  • There has been a breakdown of verbal and emotional communication

  • You are more distant and feel you have lost connection

  • The two of you struggle with the same issues over and over (e.g. parenting, money, values, sex, etc)

  • You have a poor or non-existent sex life.

  • You have experienced infidelity, addiction, or abuse

  • You’re worried that the relationship will end – or one of you is thinking about moving on

How it Works

We take an anti oppressive client focused approach that is welcoming of all genders, orientations, and relationship structures. For couples and romantic partners, we work primarily with Gottman method of therapy, which is an evidence-based form of relationship therapy that strives to assist couples in achieving a deeper sense of understanding, awareness, and connectedness in what matters most in the relationship. By combining this method with couple/ relationship exercises and other therapeutic interventions, this type of therapy helps address key issues and improve relationships.
